Happy Earth Day.
Despite our current situation, let’s celebrate today and do our part every day to save our planet. We can continuously do better and we should strive towards that discipline of learning new ways to save the world and incorporate them into our habits, regardless of how “tedious” it can be for some.
3 things I have adopted into my lifestyle I want to share with you, that you too can do are:
- Get a water bottle. There are so many brands out there that you can purchase, depending on your lifestyle needs, but this simple action, can change how you interact with the world. Swell, Lululemon, Amazon … and many more have options that you can peruse. Affordable and will last! This is an investment that is worth it.
- Reusable menstrual products like underwear or cups, make a huge difference. Do you know how many feminine products end up in landfills? There are some really amazing companies that you can purchase from. I personally like Knix (Canadian) and Thinx (American). I have bought numerous pairs from both brands because they work and make me feel good. Some might say they are expensive, but what’s that cost when you think about the long-term benefits?
- Reusable shopping bags. Got. To. Love. Them. They come in different sizes and colours, and they make you look like a world-class shopper that cares about the planet. Let’s keep doing our part and let the plastic go. And if you pay for plastic bags, how dare you?
Here are 5 simple things you can incorporate into your daily routine to help save the Earth, in addition to the above:
- Conserve water. The less water you use, the less runoff and wastewater that eventually end up in the ocean. Turn off the tap when you aren’t using it.
- Use long-lasting light bulbs. Energy-efficient light bulbs reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Also, flip the light switch off when you leave the room!
- Plant a tree. Trees provide food and oxygen. They help save energy, clean the air, and help combat climate change.
- Compost. Do it because you can and it is an active choice to save the planet.
- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Your office probably does, so why don’t you? Do it at home too. Take the extra 5 minutes to sort your garbage out.
How are you doing your part? What have you adopted into your lifestyle that is contributing to saving the planet?
