While the “winter blues” are a real deal, I definitely have my own spin on that term. It’s never been about the dark hues, and the mysterious flu bugs going around. And while the days are short, and the nights seem colder, I have always made it a point to inject color into my winter because having fun with my closet doesn’t end in the summer or fall – it’s a year-round signature marker!
I definitely believe that bringing color into the colder months is so necessary to one’s emotional and mental wellbeing because it uplifts the soul and it brightens your day. In a Vogue article, Color Therapy Expert Constance Hart said that “Color has an effect on our psyche, it’s always affecting us whether we are aware of it or not”. That being said, we should not limit ourselves to just wearing ccolorin warmer months because as great of an effect it has on our moods and mental psyche then, it can have an even bigger effect on our moods during the cold months.
Cold weather means layering, which means you can play with textures, colors and silhouettes however you want! I’m a woman who loves her outerwear and as soon as I saw this coat, I had to have it! It’s a Zara purchase, that I got during part of their semi-annual sale and when this pastel blue coat caught my attention, I knew it would be a great addition to my coat family. I’ve always been one to play it safe when it came to my closet, but as I’ve grown, so has my style and my love for pretty-colored coats. With this particular look, I paired a white Lord & Taylor knit sweater, a pair of DIY ripped jeans, Truth or Dare pumps by Madonna, and of course, the Zara coat! Accessory wise, I picked this rainbow bracelet I got at Winners and a pair of Aldo earrings and ring. Keeping color as a constant in every season is a great way to communicate and relate to people because we – as humans – want to constantly connect, and stand out in a crowd because it is in our nature to be who we are.
It’s a bold personality move to wear anything other than black, and winter time is no exception to the rule. I think of it like this, when we choose to wear color in the warmer months, we do it because we know it is so flattering and appealing to us and to the opposite sex. It has been said that the opposite sex finds women most attractive when they exude confidence, positivity, and an uplifting persona. Black is a sexy color, but not for every occasion and shouldn’t be used as a scapegoat. Don’t play it safe!
I’ve developed a well-styled and cataloged closet that works for me throughout the seasons because it encompasses unique and timeless pieces. And this coat is no exception. Don’t limit yourself to wearing dark colors just because it is winter. Experiment with your closet and have fun with styling it in a way that allows you to get the most wear out of it. Baby, it’s cold outside, but don’t let that stop you from wearing color at all.
The reasons I stand behind wearing color, especially during the cold months are:
- Brightening Up Rainy Days
- Standing Out In The Crowd
- Sex Appeal
Do you have an aversion to for color during the winter months? Or, are you someone who loves to wear color during winter and all year-round?
