Grammy winner Erykah Badu was in town for her show at the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival, and I was definitely “jelly” as I wasn’t able to make her performance at The Orpheum on Tuesday, June 23rd. After reading the reviews online and of course, scouring Instagram to see what show-goers had to say, I definitely know I missed one heck of a performance. While, I did miss her jazz show performance, I was able to catch her DJ set at Alexander, Gastown. She was in her element and alter-ego as DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown. She entertained as she spun the decks and did some riffs and vocals on top of the melodies. Seeing her behind the turn-tables showed us [audience] another side of her as a performer and artist.
