Peaches have many health benefits that can help you, depending on your ailment or what you are trying to deal with in a more holistic and natural way. Research has proven that consumption of foods that are rich in Vitamin C helps someone develop resistance against infections and certain cancers. In fact, peaches are said to:
- Aid with digestion
- Improve heart health
- Protect your skin
- Prevent certain types of Cancer
- Be easy to add to one’s diet
Peaches are in season during the summer. During this time, they are the freshest and have the most flavor and nutritional value. It is best to choose peaches with taut, fuzzy skin that gives in to pressure slightly. To ripen peaches, place them in a paper bag or near a windowsill with plenty of sunlight.
Here are some ways you can include peaches in your diet and some areas that benefit from having peaches in your diet:
- Salads
- Eating them as a snack
- Adding them to your breakfast – they go great with pancakes, chia pudding, waffles and oatmeal
I’m focusing on three specific areas which I have had to pay attention to in my diet over the last little while, for which, adding peaches into my lifestyle has been beneficial, amongst other good things. My three areas of focus have been:
Iron
Peaches are a great source of iron, which, if combined with other foods that contain iron like raisins, cashew nuts and spinach, can do good things inside the body. Iron helps the blood transport oxygen throughout the body. We kind of need this to survive.
Fiber
Fiber-rich foods can protect the health of the colon, support weight management on a long term basis, and reduce the risk of several harmful health conditions. By replacing sweet, low fiber treats with a peach or two every day, one can boost their fiber intake.
Vitamin C
Peaches are a good source of Vitamin C (anti-oxidant) can improve the appearance and health of the skin. This antioxidant helps form Collagen, which acts as the support system for the skin, promoting wound healing, enhancing skin strength, appearance, roughness, and pigmentation. Further, adequate vitamin C intake may help a person reduce their risk of cancer.
Peaches are not a superfood, but they can play an important role as part of a healthy and balanced diet. There are many other benefits that can result from taking the step to add peaches to your diet – fresh or frozen. If we start doing the work and taking the necessary steps to help ourselves, we can at least hope to minimize the chances of a serious condition. All we do is our best!
In addition to eating peaches – fresh or frozen, what are some other ways you incorporate them into your diet?
