With the holidays well into full swing, I’m sure you have had one too many food comas already … and are most likely under one as we speak. This obviously being the case, how better to soothe yourself into a sweet slumber, than by watching a Christmas movie as you sit on the couch all comfy and cozy with your beverage of choice in hand? The Hallmark Channel always shows timeless classics and new creations every Christmas, which to my delight, I always love to watch with a hot chocolate. My love for Christmas movies is huge and has gotten even crazier the last few years because of maturity and the appreciation of everything more than just gifts, and the obvious opportunity to spend quality time at home with the people I love in one space. Today, I’m sharing some of the holiday favourites that I love to watch as I spend quality time with family and eat without judgment. In no particular order, here is my list of favourites. Peep my list below.
Love Actually (2003)
Richard Curtis’s star-studded romantic comedy is a beloved modern classic. Hate it or love it, you can’t help but get involved in the multi-narrative feature film that is very holiday-centric and a comedic cheesy gem. If you don’t watch it for anything other than the epic dancing scene by Hugh Grant who plays the Prime Minister, then you are doing a disservice to yourself!
The Holiday (2006)
This Christmas romantic comedy is one of the bests that just warms you up. Two women—one in London (Kate Winslet), one in Los Angeles (Cameron Diaz) – face romantic disappointments. This tragic matter of the heart leads to them swapping apartments over the holidays after they decide on a necessary change of scenery. This swap leads them to worthy love interests and an unbreakable bond.
The Best Man Holiday (2013)
A reunion 15 years in the making, this film is a masterpiece. Diving into so many emotions and interpersonal issues, it is worth every laugh and all the tears you will shed.
Elf (2003)
A baby raised by Santa and his elves in the North Pole makes the epic journey back to New York City to locate his biological father. What could go wrong in this sweet and hilarious feature?
A Christmas Carol (2009)
While a fan of the 1951 feature film, I also love the Disney version as well. Ebenezer Scrooge played by Jim Carrey learns the true meaning of Christmas after he is visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future on Christmas Eve.
Home Alone (1990)
Macaulay Culkin as the mighty Kelvin McCallister who defends his family home against two thieves. Need I say more? This is such a classic and a definite must-see during the holidays.
It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)
I just discovered this wonderful creation as I was flipping channels the other day. Jimmy Stewart plays George Bailey – a man on the verge of committing suicide is visited by an angel who shows him the true importance of his life.
A Christmas Prince (2017)
As predictable as it is, you can’t fault it for its overindulgence in all things festive and a Prince in search of love before he takes the throne of a fictional country.
The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)
The endearing Muppet characters tell their version of this classic tale.
The Family Stone (2005)
An uptight, conservative businesswoman (Sarah Jessica Parker) accompanies her boyfriend to his eccentric and outgoing family’s annual Christmas celebration. What could go wrong with the first family gathering? This movie deals with a lot and delivers on a lot.
That’s my list of favourites. Do you have any recommendations for me?
